Biography

Dr Seyed Ali Alavi is an Associate Professor of Middle Eastern and Iranian Studies at the College of Humanities, SOAS University of London. He serves as Co-Chair of the SOAS Centre for Iranian Studies and convenes the MA Iranian Studies programme, one of Europe’s leading postgraduate pathways in the field.A specialist in the international relations of the Middle East and Asia, Dr Alavi’s research spans foreign policy analysis, cross-regional interactions, and critical Area Studies. His work explores Iran–Arab relations, the geopolitics of Greater Asia, and the cultural and political dimensions shaping contemporary West Asia.He is the author of Iran and Palestine (Routledge, 2020) and has published widely in peer-reviewed journals and edited volumes. Dr Alavi is also actively engaged in international research collaborations, including projects with institutions in Japan, China, and across the Middle East.
